Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment

Risk assessments and related analysis are an important component of an increasing number of environmental regulatory decision. The results of the assessments help determine the need for nature of remedial actions at hazardous waste sites, support the derivation of cleanup levels, and assist in permitting new facilities and in the development of closure plans for old ones. RJLC performs critical multi-pathway risk assessments and derives risk-based remediation goals for hazardous waste sites and other facilities. RJLC offers a variety of tools and modeling techniques to develop and implement cost-effective approaches.

Our services include:
• Problem formulation (chemical screening, receptor selection, exposure pathway screening)
• Multi-pathway risk assessment
• Screening-level risk evaluation
• Derivation of risk-based cleanup levels
• Deterministic and probabilistic exposure assessment
• Evaluating the ecological implications of remedial action decisions at hazardous waste sites
• Developing exposure models and food web evaluations
• Research and development to address sources of uncertainty
• Bio-availability studies of inorganic and organic compounds
• Spatial distribution analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and toxicity tests
